An Antec 900 WC/Casemod Project
An Antec 900 WC/Casemod Project
Alright. Well in anticipation of the Q9450, I decided I would go watercooling.
I wanted to get a decent CPU loop going, with the possibility of upgrading to GPU as well.
Watercooling Loop Setup
- HWLabs 360GTX Radiator
- D5 Vario
- Dtek FuZion (Pro Mount)
- Danger Den Fillport Res
- 6x Scythe 120mm 133.6CFM Fans in Push/Pull (so much for quiet PC hah)
But, as anyone with an Antec 900 knows, or will tell you...its not exactly the greatest case in the world for watercooling (it works, but I don't like it). So I decided "Hey, while I've got all my junk out of the case and splayed throughout the house, I might as well cut it to ribbons!" Well, I hope not ribbons at least, but I intend to modify the case rather extensively.
Antec 900 Case Mod Ideas/Checklist
- Cable Management
- Remove crappy Antec 900 case top (with crappy fan)
- Remove front bezel (the plastic part, unimpressed)
- Recut side window (no more funky window layout)
- Cover top with 1/4" black acrylic
- New Power/Reset Switches Red Circle Red Dot
- Fillport for res
- Radiator mounting
- Possibly custom radiator box (1/4" black acrylic)
- Cover front bezel with 1/4" black acrylic
- Replace Antec 900 stock usb/firewire port
- Cut hole in bottom of case for 120mm intake fan
- Remove rear fan grill
- Powdercoat chassis/interior black
- Case feet
I started doing a little bit of this before I began this worklog (dumb, I know, but whatev) and I have recieved 90% of my watercooling gear and its mostly setup as well. But with that said, I know how much you guys like pictures, so I'll give you a few. I'll also see if I can include a few weaksauce paint renders of my ideas for how this might work out.
Heres the rig I'm currently typing on, naked...the rig, not me.
Cable management holes cut (I like big). U-channel in the mail.
Front without Bezel.
Another with no front Bezel.
Top cutout for acrylic (all with a dremel ) U-Channel going on as well.
Picture of my rear fan grill removed. Going to grind those down real nice and u-channel it. I love the stuff...
My radiator, fans, G11 box from petras (I see a note in there somewhere, and the ballin pen is in my room)
Scythe Ultrakaze 120mm 133.6CFM 45dBA (x6...aaah!)
The loop minus the res...makes filling interesting to say the least. Its just chilling there after a night of custom t-line action, making sure everything works alright. It does.
My weak paint render of how I want my radiator box to sit on top, with the fans acting as exhaust through the top of the case pushing through the radiator, and out the top. My power and reset button placement (red) and the res fillport cutout. Not sure where I'm going to stash it yet, but I'll figure it out.
My planned loop setup.
My planned front bezel setup. This could be the really tricky part.
My spare parts warehouse. Notice the custom T-Line? Salvaged from sprinkler pipe parts. Good stuff! Not the most leak proof though...
My faithful assistants. That insisted on trying to drink all of my vinegar water...
I might also be installing some sort of handle(s) on the top as well, depends how it ends up. Thing is going to be super heavy when its finished.
Well, its obviously a work in progress, but I have high hopes for it. I will try to keep it updated as I go, if I skip a few steps please leave the noose at home.
