p5e3 deluxe or the maximus extreme?

Hi there,

I'm trying to figure out which motherboard I should take.
The p5e3 deluxe or the maximus extreme. I narrowed them down to these two since I don't need to run sli ( well unless the upcoming 9800 is only running in sli )

I'm going to overclock my QX9650 to 4 ghz and I want the best board which gives the best result when overclocking to 4 ghz. I also use a already overclocked graphich card the evga 8800 gtx.

Now I see maximus extreme is a good board for overclocking but to be frank it is a bit too expensive and I just need a board which will handle my overclocked qx9650 'to 4 ghz' just fine.
I don't need to many wistle and bells which I probably not going to need.

So is the p5e3 a good board enuff for stable overclocking for its money and value? Or does the maximus extreme hold more value to my cpu in terms of stableness? Or would another board suffice my needs a bit better ( I use ddr3 )? I probably not going to constantly overclock I want to overclock it one time and then i'm probably not going to do it anymore.

So which one should I pick?
I prefer price and stability much more then things I'm probably not going to need or would just be 'cool to have features'.
If the p5e3 deluxe gives me the same stable overclock rate as the maximus would give then i'm most likely going for the p5e3.

Also whats the pros and cons on these boards? ( couldn't find any pros and cons on the internet )

Any answers would hugely be appreciated!

Thanks!

I,M.O. using that cpu there is only one mobo to use..the MAXIMUS !! Thats where Im headed shortly.
If you were running a 6600 ,perhaps the p5e3 would have been my choice..
I just love the MAXUMUS though..Let us know what you decide and how everything goes..

en welkom !!

Yeah, I'm going to overclock the cpu only tho
but I dunno what I should buy. A review I read used a p5e3 deluxe to overclock the cpu to 4 ghz tho raising the voltage to 1.43 which is a bit too much if you ask me. Would a maximus extreme get a lower voltage?

I'm having a hard time figuring out which one to buy I simply can't decide!
I don't want to pay for extras which I probably not going to need.

So would it be wiser to buy a p5e3 for stable 4 ghz overclock or would the maximus extreme give me more stability?

For me stability comes first.

Thanks!

The P5E3 is a very good board...Unfortunately I have not owned any of these ,but have read up extensively on them..One is really a workhorse and the other the gamers choice...

They are basically the same board. One has a few extra onboard items, EI Wifi and such. The maximus is all about maximum performance out of the box but is geared to water, not that you have to use water but they got it ready for you.

With a QX processor you wont be as worried about you FSB to hit that 4ghz mark, it will be more about your CPU cooling imo. I would get the maximus because it's only a couple more dollars. Then you can just throw the NB into your cooling loop for that 4ghz+ processor since you will prolly want it under water too.

Hi there!

I've decided i'm going for the maximum extreme cause i'm indeed going to use a water cooler.

With a water cooler i'm able to raise my voltages a bit higher ( i'm going for v 1.32 core max ) so my overclocked cpu will probably give me alot more stability as well.

So thanks alot. Made my choice a bit easier

Also if the p5e3 premium comes out soon then i'm going for that one, it uses the newest intel chipset and reviews were very promising especially at overclocking!

But if it doesn't then i'll stick with the maximus extreme

Cheers!
