Welcome Screen Disabled?

Thread Starter
I had the welcome screen for login, then trying to fix my internetz, installed some NET framework thing, which wouldn't allow me to use the welcome screen (so it was the classic version instead) so i uninstalled the NET thing, and can now select the Welcome Screen option from account options, and apply it... but it still shows the classic menu after numerous reboots. any ideas?

What do you mean by the classic menu? Is it asking for your username and password Windows 95, 98/2000 style? If it is, then go to the Run command and type control userpasswords2 (you can quickly get to Run by WindowsKey+R, and WindowsKey then R, or click on the Start button, and click on Run. They're all the same thing).

So once you've entered control userpasswords2, uncheck the box "Users must enter a user name and password to use this computer." Click OK. If anything happens you need to ask about, please ask.

Otherwise, go ahead apply the Welcome Screen. If you're the only user on your computer, and you don't care whether or not a password is entered, then leave the Welcome Screen unchecked, because when you shut down, restart, or anything, you get a cool menu in which you can: Press S (twice if Stand By is in there) then hit enter for Shut Down. Press R then hit enter for Restart. Press H, then enter for Hibernation (if it's in there). Or you can use the mouse wheel to make your selection, then quickly hit enter. Time saving shortcuts.

Otherwise, that's all I have for now.
