I wouldn't get one for the purpose of upgrading to SATA II. But most HDDs now are SATA II anyway.

just a suggestion, but have you checked if your mobo supports sata2?

Yup in the manual says it supports "Serial ATA 3.0Gb/s".

So my understanding is the SATA interface is capable of that speed, but the hard drive itself usually isnt. Is this true?

gigabits, not bytes. gigabytes/sec would be insane.

seems to be to my knowledge, i guess they're saying that occasionally a burst might get up there, if you want to find out try systool, it has benchmarking for harddisks there's probably a better program, but that will give you seek times and "sequential read" sizes.

A lot of applications are run completely from memory, so I can't agree with you there. What is your general usage that is requiring so many read/writes?

What hard drives are you comparing? Remember, the fastest desktop drives are still Sata1.
