Just installed GTA San andreas but screen flashes?

It flashes with the alphabet in the san andreas font. and freezes evers so often for 10 seconds...is there any way to fix this?
On vista in compatabillity mode by the way

I would guess because of your outdated system. San andreas may not look that great, but because of the huge amount of textures and objects it has to draw in the huge city all at once, your pc can't take it. My E4500 @3.5ghz and x1950xt barely managed a steady 60fps with everything on high.

Is the frame limiter on?It's in the options menu.
Also is vista in performance mode?
Also vista with 1 GB of memory is not enough.

It's the onboard graphics. You need a discrete card, preferably a 7600 series and up.
