8800GTX CoD4 FPS Issues

Thread Starter
Hey everyone,

I've poked around a lot of different places, and most people with an 8800GTX get around 70-160FPS on this game with this card, and all of the other specs of their PC's are generally a step below what I have.

I average maybe 22FPS. It'll jump to 60fps once in a while, but generally runs around 20-25 fps. That is pathetic, and with a card like this, shouldn't be happening on the optimal system settings.

I've played around in Rivatuner, ntune, and overclocked it, none of the changes I've made make that much of a difference. I set it all back to normal, and naturally, 22fps.

I just today got a new pcu, thinking maybe if I got one that could handle a little more power might help(i.e. maybe the card wasn't getting the power it needed). My pc itself runs a hell of a lot faster, the card is giving me the same issues.

Here's what I know: My raptor HD is working perfectly, the 8800GTX is working fine, my RAM is working fine, my cd drives are fine, naturally my water cooling system is fine, the pcu is fine, the cpu is fine. The thing I need to know -- Could the problem realistically be my mobo? I have no idea whether a mobo would make that much of a difference(I would assume it could). I've pretty much made sure to match everything else with this card and haven't gotten any results.

Does anyone have this card, and what mobo are you using(assuming you get better fps than I am)? Or if anyone else has any ideas, please share! This is frustrating as heck to spend 500 bucks on a card and get this kind of performance(or lack thereof).

Thanks!

Philip.

P.S. I have the same issues in UT3, Bioshock, NR2003, RFactor, GTR2, CoD2... pretty much everything.

Personally i think ure Motherboard + CPU is holding ure GPU back.

And causing the Low FPS jumps. Have u tried Uninstalling ure drivers running driver cleaner Pro then reinstalling them ?

Mobo??? You're cpu is bottlenecking your whole system. Are you getting these kinds of problems in cs:s?

CS:S is not that dependent on the cpu, do you get good fps for a 8800GTX in that?

noob advice, but trying installing ALL the latest drivers for your graphics, mobo, etc. see if that helps.

I get those FPSs with my system. I don't think it would be the CPU or mobo but most likely a driver issue. Try the newest drivers or some older stable ones (sorry, I don't know much when it comes to nvidia drivers).

Good luck!

Okay first off... I do have all the latest drivers for all of my stuff, bios is up-to-date, I've tried Omega drivers for the gtx, all that good stuff, no difference. I have used diver cleaner pro and uninstalled all my drivers and reinstalled them, again, no difference.

I am not all that bright with some of this stuff... what is CS:S? And why would my cpu be bottlenecking the whole system? If that would be the issue, what would be a better CPU to go after?

I am fairly certain the PCI-E slot is at 16X, but how would I check that? I know how to check it through nTune, which it says it is, any better way to do that?

Thanks again for all the help!

-Philip.

Download a program called GPU-Z to check out everything about your graphics card.

just use gpuz to check it.
cs:s is counter strike source.
your cpu should not be bottlenecking you down to 22fps in cod4,how much fps do you get in other games?
