A couple quick questions... I've never before used Intel, is there anything else I would need to change besides mobo/cpu?

Equally, is there anything special I'd need to do with my HD's, or just throw the mobo/cpu in there and fire it up? Obviously I'd uninstall the Gigabyte drivers, etc, first.

Thanks again!

You should probably go ahead and re-install windows when you make the switch. Some people are succesful in un-installing drivers then changing the MB and re-installing the new drivers but I would advice against this. Just go ahead and change your MB and CPU hook everything back up and install windows fresh. Make sure to backup all of your files before you do this because this will erase your hard-drive.

You should not need to change any of your other hardware. If you need any advice on what Intel hardware to pick then just post your budget and we can help you out.

i seriously doubt your cpu is causing THAT much of a bottleneck, an AMD 2.8ghz dual core should be able to keep up with an 8800GTX fine, i believe your problem is elsewhere. Also if you are going to change your motherboard, it is best to re-install windows and on an non-overclocked system, what are you getting 3Dmark06 wise?

Okay here's what I'm looking at:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz - 190$ at newegg
ABIT IP35 Pro LGA 775 Intel P35 ATX - 175$ at newegg

That's actually pretty close to what you have, you think it might give me what I'm looking for?

The person above seems to think that your CPU is fine, I do know that when I came from a AMD system to what I have now I saw an amazing performance increase.

If you live anywhere close to this store http://www.microcenter.com/ then you can get a Q6600 for 199$ this week only, which is an amazing deal. In-Store only.

If you are not ready to upgrade then stick around for a while and maybe let a few more ppl try and help you troubleshoot because you could have something else wrong with your system.

Well, if I was home in Ohio, I'd live near a microcenter. I go to school in Montana... Go figure .

The one thing I will say against AMD is my cpu really, really doesn't like to be overclocked. I've taken a couple stabs at it and I can only get it to 2.90 from the 2.81 stock, and even then it's very, very unstable. However, did what i write earlier, would that be a good combo?

Yes, what you wrote earlier is a great combo and very popular around here.

If you can afford it though I would advise you get this CPU instead.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115018

This will future proof your build. (That link is CPU only no heat sink, If you need a Heat Sink with it then you will have to pay a little more for this one.)

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16819115017

But if you cannot afford that CPU then the E6750 will also work just fine.

EDIT: I am off to the movies but I will be back in a couple of hours and I will help you out some more then.

Whew that is a little bit more, I might need to have a couple drinks before I pull the trigger on that one. However I do have a Zalman water cooling system, so cooling won't be an issue. Thanks again for your help, it is greatly appreciated!

Great combo, I have it. Ocs pretty nicely, would take me 6750 to 3.8ghz if the batch I got wasn't so bad.

Still, it does seem strange that your cpu would bottleneck THAT much. I would hate to see you order this, and then find out that your 8800GTX is faulty or something. What fps do you get in 3d view on ATi tool. Can you scan for artifacts, and get none after 10 minutes?
