[TheAge] "Gifi" - 5Gb/s wifi

The tiny five-millimetre-a-side chip can transmit data through a wireless connection at a breakthrough five gigabits per second over distances of up to 10 metres. An entire high-definition movie from a video shop kiosk could be transmitted to a mobile phone in a few seconds, and the phone could then upload the movie to a home computer or screen at the same speed.
2w built in amp? does 802.11a/b/g/n have a built in amp? 2w in addition to a normal a/b/g/n router should increase the distance by two miles.

This is what will be needed in conjunction with Fibre to the Home. I'll keep an eye on this as when I get some serious money off my dad I'm going to start a fibre only isp.

I dont get it. My wireless speeds are almost as good as my wired speeds. Does this just increase range? If so, I dont need to share my internet with the entire neighborhood.

I doubt your using 1gbit wires then. Otherwise you would notice the difference. For example I stream HD content from the server in my room to the my Xbox. Until I got it wired it was unstable at streaming.

Hmmm...never heard of something like that for a network. For speakers maybe. I dunno....the only practical wires I know of are CAT 5 & CAT 6 wires. And the benefits of 6 to 5 arent much.

No he's not. Cat 5 and 6 are 100-ohm twisted cables that differ only by the transmission frequencies they can carry. Saying 1-ohm wires makes just as much sense as 1gbit wires.

I believe what he was talking about was using an entire gigabit network (switch, NICs, etc.). I don't use a gigabit network, but even at 100mbps my wired network is 10 times faster than wireless. I also experienced stuttering when streaming to an Xbox until I went wired.
