First OC with E2180

Thread Starter
Well I got my order and put things together, now I tried a few things:
(this is using my sig rig)

FSB from 200 to 300 and ratio to 1:1, CPU temp in EQ shows at load (orthos running blend test) at 53C max, usually around 48-51C. I had 48C before OCing with orthos running blend.

A few things: in bios often my keyboard will start to react very slowly and sometimes just stop responding (have to reboot to get it back). Also sometimes CPUz shows 3000Ghz corespeed for a sec then goes to 1800 Core Speed? before OCing it was showing 2000ghz then 1200?? any idea?

As I was typing that running lots of windows for screenshots and firefox, I am seeing the temp up to 55C now, is this too high ? I am using stock cooling as I order the Artic 64 instead of 7.

Here is a CPUz screenshots:

Note: Now that I am done with the post the temp went back down to 50C with orthos still running without errors.

The tj max is like 85C, so you are fine. I've had my E2180 up to 70C before. It's currently running at 62C max load. As long as you stay in the 50's you are definitely fine.

As far as CPUZ not reporting the speed properly. Make sure in the bios that C1E (Enhanced Halt State) and/or EIST (Enhanced Intel SpeedStep Technology) is disabled. Then it will report the proper results.

Hope that helps.

Also. Make sure to use CoreTemp to get accurate CPU core temperatures. linskingdom has an excellent table on stable E2180's at http://www.overclock.net/intel-cpus/...on-thread.html

Hope that helps. Have fun. Good luck.

Thanks Jade, I was just worried about the temp since this is my first OC and I really don't want to burn my CPU. Been running orthos blend test for 40 mins now, to make sure would it be better to run the CPU stress test only ?

Thanks again Jade, just checked linkskingdom thread, also confirmed the temp from abitEQ with Coretemp and they're the same, I also Have Speedfan running

Seems CPUz is reporting speed correctly now... Will do a 3Dmark06 test to see the diff in result. Had a poor 5168 before OC.

If you can pass the orthos test for 24 hours. You have it made! That sucker REALLY stresses the cpu. This E2180 is an incredible overclocker! You won't be disappointed.
Be sure to click "REP+" if that helped. I could use the reps. hehehe

Have fun.

One more thing, is there an app that logs temperatures, so I know the all time high temp during the test?

I'm not sure about that. Mine reached the highest vCore temps at around the 4 or 5th iteration of Orthos. It never went above that. But maybe somebody else knows more about that then me. You can check the help file with Orthos for a possible logfile.

Honestly, with that board, the crucial ballistix memory, and your low temps. It sounds like you got lucky and got a great CPU and motherboard! You can push it to 3.2GHZ or 3.3GHz easily once that Arctic cooler arrives.

Have fun

Some more, I am about to fill out the RMA form for the cooler, but I read in linskingdom E2180 thread something about the IP35-E NB being in the way of the Arctic Freezer Cooler Pro 7:

Quote:
For the AC Pro 7 users, you may need to pick different mobo because Abit's NB blocks the cooler and I have to cut the bottom fins about 0.2cm in order to fit in.
So is there a different cooler someone can recommend ? As I said before I ordered the AC64 which is for AMD so now gotta return it and get something around the same price.

Thanks in advance

Since you already have low temps on stock. If you want to go el-cheapo. Check this one out at Newegg. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16835200035

Otherwise I'd go with a Zalman.

My gaming rig rocks. I just beat Call of Duty 4 full speed on my E2180
