Built for my sister

Thread Starter
Ok, so I've seen alot of 'review my built' thread, and I would like you to quickly check if everything's fine with this one. My sister plays Sims, will play Sims 2, D2:LOD, and her bf plays Medal of honor, Unreal tournament, D2:LOD.

They don't play Crysis however.

So, me and my brother came up with this rig for them:

Mobo: EVGA 680i LT
CPU: E6550
RAM: Corsair 2x 1024mb DDR-800
PSU: OCZ GameXStream 700 watt
Gfx card: Gforce 8600 GS (they can SLI later)
HD: WD 320 gb

Looks good but: Do you really need 700W?. Id say drop the psu to a 600W and get a 8800GS.

My 8800 GTS and Quad runs fine on a 650W psu.

Looks good. Do you mean 8800GS? A good 550w or 600w PSU should be fine for SLI. OCZ 700w seems have a good price at ncix.
Get the G.Skill's!

or Crucial, if you must.

I think 8800Gt would be the better buy though. Long term.

And he's goign to sli them, so I think 700 would be safe.
And he might add other things, that we do not know.

This looks like a pretty good card for that build, and only just a little bit more expensive than an 8600GT.

yeah well, they cant' really afford a 8800 gt... they buy the PC in a local store and their prices are OK but it's pricier than buying on the internet.

Oh yeah - sorry for the wrong letter - It's a 8600 gt or gts. I agree this is an entry-level card, but if the game lag they can go sli, however. Or just get a 8800 gt later.

ninjin: I don't know g.skill !

And yeah, the PSU was 600 or 650 watt - sorry.

That PSU is fine.. getting a different one will only shave off a few dollars though if you want to go modular i have this one.. same amps as the gamerstream just less overall volts, with your build though it will do fine.

Also drop down on your mobo, you dont need a top shelf one for this build
I'd get a

GIGABYTE GA-P35-DS3L -$80

or If you want SLi:

MSI P6N SLI Platinum nForce 650i SLI -$125

Then with the extra money get a EVGA 9600GT for $180

Good luck

Then Corsair 550VX is plenty of your rig. I am assuming that you can only purchase it from Canada sites.
The PSU is overkill really. Get a corsair 550VX one for $100.
And for graphics, what about the new 9600gt? Almost 8800gt speeds but for only $180.
And do you need a case? If so get the coolermaster 690 for only $80

Thanks linsking - Im gonna check that one.

Please note that if they they want more performance in the future, they will trade the core 2 for a Q6600 or better. They will SLI before that, tho.

That's why we've decided to go with the evga 680i LT - the LT does not oc well but they wont oc the CPU, only the video card. And theyr can swap for a quad later

yeah - my sister have a case in that price range

and thanks - i will thinka bout the 9600 gt
