Its a different architecture i think. Possible theres more power per clock. If it was a fanboy rant the clocks would be outrageous.

I suppose you've got a point. So does anyone think the G100 is still planned for June, under a new name? 9900GTX? If so, then the 9800GTX does seem like a HUGE waste of a card in the shadows of 9800GX2 and a new single core card. Thats the reason I believe the G100/GT-200 or whatever it was rumored as is not coming out anytime soon.

They are two different cores. They are not as directly comparable as the 8800GT, 8800GTS 512mb, 9800GX2, and 9800GTX. While I do agree that these cards will be better optimized, i doubt it will be to the point where half the shaders produce the same amount of power. That would be unreal. Awesome, but unreal.

Your 8800GTS = 970MHz real, 1940MHz effective.

512Mb interfaces are much more expensive than 256bit, the HD4870 will have GDDR5 which, will not only run faster, but the its 256bit interface won't cause a bottleneck. The GX2's GDDR3 and 256bit interface will slow it, not that much, but it will be apparent at high resolutions.

The 9600GT is based on the G94 core, sure, it sounds like it is supposed to be weaker compared the the G92, but it is more advanced. I do wonder though, ATI's 4000 series is coming out in the summer, do you think the G94 will beat out or loose to the HD4850?

EDIT: Yes I'm practically advertising ATI right here, but they are finally pumping out cards that are worthy to be considered as high end. NVidia is basically sitting on their hands with the 9-series.

im wondering the same thing.. because if this is the gtx specs. i will agree "nvidia IS sitting on their hands" or just phail..

i too am hoping to see a 512-bit 1GB card from nvidia in their high end gaming series.. not the gx2.. my money is that will flop like the drivers did for the 7 series gx2..
