First Gaming Rig - Page 3

Well, here's what you can do with sli :

1x 8800GT
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get another 8800 GT
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get a newer card
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get a second card
Game Lag
Overclock

It gives you much more flexibility and reduced cost, instead of going from newer card to newer card. You can keep your system longer with the same equipements plus the price goes down while you have only one card, so it become a 40% perf increase at a cheap price

or you can do :

1x 8800GT
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get an aftermarket cooler and paste, overclock some more
Game Lag
Get another 8800 GT
Game Lag
Get an aftermarket cooler and paste, overclock some more
Game Lag
Get a newer card
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get an aftermarket cooler and paste, overclock some more
Game Lag
Get a second card
Game Lag
Overclock
Game Lag
Get an aftermarket cooler and paste, overclock some more
Game Lag

So you're good for twice or triple the time of a single card, IMO, even with only the beginning, ie. not changing the card.

you're staying with the gigabyte ?

also, you might want some fans in your case, at least one on the back. Check the CFM on the fan before buying. the higher the better

Minor things:

OCZ Freeze or AS5 paste for the video card if you replace the stock cooler (warning AS5 is highly conductive)

Aftermarket cooler for the 8800 GT (so you might be able to get 650, 720, or a little more than the stock 600 mhz)

there os nothing wrong with getting vista. if you have the hardware to run it you will be fine. and no it doesnt waste ram it uses it way different than XP does so you cannot compare them to one another.
