Nvidia Geforce 7600 GT

post #1 of 19
Thread Starter
I'm running a Nvidia GeForce 7600 GT

Few questions about this card.

1 : Would it be better off to just go for a 7900 rather than spend the money to get a secondary card and run this in SLI?

2 : In order to SLI, do the card need to match in every way, shape, and form? I mean, I know different companies manufacture the 7600, so would it matter?

3 : If SLI was made with 2x 7600 GT's would the performance be.. well.. a massive step up?

Thanks ahead of time.

SLI never makes sense on a budget. What games are you playing? I would keep the 7600gt until you really need to upgrade or can afford an 8800 or 3870.

Two 7600 GT by logic would be about as good as one 7800 GT.

The 7900 don't use lots of power and are powerful cards.

SLI only comes into its own above 16x10 resolutions it would be better for you and your budget to sell the 7600gt and grab 7900 or higher as budget allows. If you decide to go SLI you just need another 7600gt the bios, clocks or manufactor does not matter

Well... On this card I've been able to play Crysis (Woo), Bioshock on full settings, and Lost Planet on slightly tweaked settings for better graphics. Also, I should include the old game of RF online on full detail. The only two games that I've ran into lag on were Crysis which shouldn't be a surprise and Lost Planet. The other mentioned games and other such as Jericho provide no problem.

But I take it buying a 7900 would be better than SLI of two 7600? >>;

Yes that is correct. But why not get an 8800 GS for $149, or a 9600GT for $179? How much ae you hetting the 7900 for?

Look at this, 7600gt in SLI is a bit more powerful than a single 7900gt according to guru3d. My advice would be to save up for a 8800GT, or a 9600GT if you don't want to spend too much.

I don't have the Cash to spare for that at the moment. xD I tend to get impatient and increase in increments. However with the 8800, do you HAVE to run that through Vista? O_O; I hate Vista with a passion >>. Not to mention, I've heard bad things about certain 8800 cards.

No, you don't need Vista but the 8800 cards are very good. Its worth saving for

8800 are good cards and NO you don't have to run Vista, only for DX10.
