how is the foxconn mars better then the ip35 pro? its $30 more (in canada anyway).

I was gonna go with the 8600gt XXX because its cheap and adequite for the games around now... i figured i'd upgrade my vid card a little later and get something sick.... but let me know your suggestions on a vid card... i am on somewhat of a budget of $1000.

The Foxconn mars is a better overclocker, will get higher fsbs, if you don't need it then just get the abit.

Eggcellent board. Asus is better than any other brand mentioned so far.

Boost, you've got a good build for the most part. For your mobo, just go with the Gigabyte GA-P35 DS3L, it's the best budget P35 mobo. (http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128059)

The 8600 is a mistake though, there are so many better deals out. The best choice is the 8800gt, but if 250$ is too much $$, consider one of the following options

1) the 9600gt, just came out, has good performance, and is cheap.
2) ATI just slashed prices on their cards, if you can get a 3870 for under 200$, go for it!

3870's and 9600 GT are about $180 on newegg as of right now

9600 GT http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814150277
3870 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16814102719

I would get a cheaper mobo such as the gigabyte that has been recommended to you and grab a better vid card.....you will thank yourself later

I beg to differ, the p5k out of the box is not as good as the mars or the abit ip35 pro. With mods it can compare, but what kind of results have you gotten with your p5k? I bet I have beat it with my mars.

Out of the box I was at 3.6 Ghz stable in minutes. Havent gone any higher because my RAM stinks, but I dont bother keeping my rig OCd anyway.

3.6 isn't very hard for a Q6600, It could easily be achieved on any of the boards listed above. What kind of fsb did you get? I doubt you will get 589 fsb with a dual on your board, next time i bench a quad on this board, i bet you wont come close to it's fsb either.

I didnt drop the multiplier when I overclocked, I left it at 9, so my FSB was at 400, so I'm not sure what the max is. All he's looking for is up to 3.6 anyway. The host of BIOS options in Asus' motherboards as well as other features is enough to keep me buying them anyway.
