Recommendations for a Custom Setup?

Thread Starter
I have been researching water cooling for a while now and love the idea of it. So much so, that I wish too include it in my first custom rig(my specs). However, I don't know what the best parts for the job are. I wish to cool the Q6600 and the 8800, and also make it easy to add another 8800 later(if possible). Could you WC gurus out there recommend me a good mid-price range setup. Thanks to everyone in advance who helps out.

I just got one a few weeks ago and got:

cpu: Swiftech Apogee GT
pump: Swiftech 655
rad: Swiftech 220
barbs: Swiftech 1/2" crome barbs 1/4" bspp for the rad
res: Swiftech mirco res (could also use a t-line)
Swiftech rad box

Came up around $205 and some change

I got the tubing at Home Depot for around $7 for 10ft. 1/2" ID X 3/4 OD

I only did a cpu loop so if you going to cool your gpu(s) you may want a bigger rad.

Hope this help.

EDIT: you also need clamps. the water block and mirco res came with some. You could also use zip tie.

Could brand for such parts. It depends on what you need.

Check out this thread to link to other threads to see what are the types of cooling blocks you need. Danger den makes pretty good stuff. Swiftech as well.

oh, well alright then.. you can get something really nice with that.

cpu block, you should go with a d-tek FuZion as they are agreeably the most popular. (Or check out fstfreddy's stinger blocks, they are awesome)

radiator, check out the Thermochill PA120.3, If you cant afford it stick with one of the Black Ice series rads such as the BIX360.

to hold the rad i would suggest getting a Radbox to piggyback it on the back of your case. (keeping the rad exteral helps get better temperatures, and it would be really hard to fit a 360 rad internally)

for a pump, get the Swiftech655(D5). **NOTE** make sure that it is not the -B one, as it is a downgraded version.

Now, you can either go with a T-line, (a tube that runs vertically to collect air bubbles also used to fill and drain the loop) or a res. using a res is more "clean" in my opinion, and you can buy a nice bay res to fit inside one of the slots.

anyways, a lot of people use the Swiftech Micro-res.. but use whatever floats your boat.

now, im not entirely sure on what to use for a gpu block, as i dont have one.. so you might have to ask someone else.

I got most of my things from these websites, hopefully you can find them useful.
