College Laptop attempt #2

Thread Starter
About 2 years ago I made the biggest mistake of my life by purchasing an Alienware gaming laptop for college. I just recently sold it since I built a desktop which is 10x better than it. However, I would like a cheap laptop specifically for taking notes in class. I do not need any gaming power because I will only take notes / surf the internet with it. I would prefer something that does not take a year to boot also. Have any suggestions?

Get some cheap $400 laptop. It might be useful to have a relatively fast laptop with lots of space (so not an EEE), even as a notetaking laptop. Just look at the Sunday ad's and computer deals.

Regardless of what brand you get I would suggest a couple of things:

-Integrated graphics (you dont need discrete card, it just uses power
-Biggest battery you can afford
-Make sure it is of a weight you are willing to carry, I wouldn't go over 15" screen
-If you want it to last a few years and still be nice and fast for everything you put on it, I would suggest spend around 1000$ that will get you C2D, 2GB RAM, and everything else.

I got the EEE 2G Surf and LOVE it for taking around to classes. It is the next best thing after a tablet.
