Overclocking G0 Q6600

Thread Starter
This is my current setup, my goal is to push up to 3.0ghz...

I have the Thermaltake 120 Extreme heatsink....

Stock setup is at CPU Multiplier 9x which gives around CPU 2.4 GHz, FSB 1066MHz AND Memory 800Mhz.

I try increasing the FSB gradually by increments of 10Mhz it will only take up to 1088Mhz, before system crashes, is that normal to crash at only 1088Mhz without adjusting any other settings. I followed the Nvidia Guide for the nforce sli motherboard on this forum to disable certain settings in your bios before you begin the overclocking.

If anyone has a similar setup what are some settings I can use to get 3.0ghz?

Well, there's only one model of the 680i SLI that OC Quad Cores properly, I don't recall it exactly but it's one from Evga, the rest BFG, XFX... it's a no go for Quad Core OCing. I could do 3.4GHz on my E6600 on my BFG Tech 680i SLI but as soon as I got my Q6600, it could be stable for hours, and then crash during the first seconds...
You can always try to update your BIOS to P32 (latest BIOS that I am aware of), and disable everything such as C1E, Speedstep...

I think your RAM is holding you back, change the divider to a 1:1 ratio (333/667) and your RAM should be good to 400FSB. 333FSB is 3.0 GHZ

There's no divider because he is supposed to run the RAM unlinked anyways.

Honestly I don't know the exact significance of g0, but from what I keep reading this series of Intel q6600 processors have good overclocking abilities.

GO stepping, from what little I know about it, means they can take more heat, thus more VCore.

It says fresh build, so my guess would be the mobo is the newest one. There's a way to check the board visually, but I can't recall where it is in the forums...hmmm.

Oops, my bad. But he does have to set that up in the BIOS, if I'm not mistaken.

He does have to do it in the BIOS ya, nForce boards allow you to run your RAM unlinked unlike Intel chipsets.
