Format an HD

Thread Starter
Ok. I have a 500GB Seagate that I have in an external enclosure. I want to format it. However, I was wondering if there's any good formating software out there. I'm trying not to use the Windows one because maybe there's something better. I want a complete wipe out. If you know, reply please! Thx

If you want to completely wipe it out, talk to CyberDruid, he'll show you a few ways to do it.

Just download the free version of Kill disk. It will copy 0s to the drive and erase all data on the drive. I think it can only bee done through dos.

The Seagate DiskWizard works great. Always has, in every version. At least for the last 10 years that I have been building systems. Download it for free from Seagate directly. Formatted my 320GB in less than 10 seconds.

If you get a copy of Hirens boot cd, theres tons of programs, from seagate/maxtor as well as aftermarket programs that will work. Also you can try :http://gparted.sourceforge.net/ and look for the live cd. It works for any format you would need for windows/linux/mac etc.

Gparted works and can detect Thumbdrives, all Hard drives including externals.
