Keep updating!

Also - I'm curious how what appears to be a 90mm fan will fit inside the case behind the motherboard tray without extending out of the right side panel.

Hi, I actually registered on here especially for this thread. I've been following this mod with great interest. So far I haven't got much cooling problems with my 3D aurora 570 but I too feel there is room for improvement.

Keep up the good work.

Hi thanks guys,
I will be cutting through the right side panel so the 90mm fan will "stick" through. I have filed down the mounting holes of the fan so the hole in the side panel will only be as big as it needs to be. I will be making a custom cover that will mount to the side panel and slide over the fan when the door is fitted. I want it attached to the side panel so that it protects the fan. I will be making it from perpex.

Well I managed to do a few coats of undercoat yesterday. The rain really came down so I did it inside....got pretty goofed by the fumes...lol. I suppose thats why there is a warning on the can.

Thanks for all the positive feedback. Should I update with the steps of how I paint?

See ya later

Thanks for the comments,
Yep the fan will stick out the right hand side panel. I am going to use a standard 90mm fan, but Mozzie told me about a thinner fan which I will look into...It all depends on how far it sticks out. I will only make a desission once I have the case back together. I will be able to measure the distance between the side panel and mob tray.
The thinner fan may be just to thick and only stick through a few mm. It will be difficult to make such a thin gaurd. I would rather the fan stick through further 'cos then making a gaurd will be easier (I got big clumsy fingers...lol).

Hey guys,
So I am off and I have quietly been working on the case and then some. So a few coats of paint are on and it is looking great. So far not a single paint run…..touching a lot of wood right now. I also went on with a mod which has taken the whole day to do…I lapped the Quad in….the results have been nothing short of amazing. Well here is the update

Undercoated parts ready for painting.

First coat of paint. Nice and thin. The camera does not do the paint justice. It is metallic.

Secound coat on

The CPU to be lapped. I must say, I am quite nervous about doing this

Fitted the CPU cover for protection.

After about half an hour with 600 grit paper. Still a long way to go.

Moved to 1200 grit paper. The arm gets tired doing this…..

1200 grit doesn’t get any shine yet almost flat. So I thought……

2000 grit paper she starts to sparkle. Still a far way off though…..

All shiny Mozzie’s business card. The results of a lot of polishing. Again the camera doesn’t quite get the effect right. It actually looks like a mirror.

After all that lapping my arm feels like it is going to fall off...lol. But woth the trobble.
O.K. so I said the results of the lapping were amassing so here they are……

My machine is running stock at the moment. I used Core temp 0.96.1 and ran 3D mark 06. I worked out the average temps by transfering the Core Temp log to Excel. These are the results before the lapping…..Important thing here are the temps….

3D Marks 11355
Core 0 - 60.469
Core 1 - 55.982
Core 2 - 46.872
Core 3 - 47.899

And now after the CPU lapping

3D Marks 11594
Core 0 - 50.847
Core 1 - 46.762
Core 2 - 36.989
Core 3 - 38.609

I must say this has surprised me, I thought I would only get a few degrees down….not the major drop that has happened. Well worth the days work then.

Well I will post again once I have finished the paint job and started to reassemble the case.

Thanks for watching.

Great results on the lapping, and the case is looking great. I have a question though, please don't take this in a derogatory way. Were you born in south africa or did you move there for a job/other reason?
