[Project]3D Aurora 570 - Page 10

Hello all.

I registered here just for this thread, respect for the modding zoom!I really want to see this finished.

I am a little bit disappointed by the intake fan too. When i put my hand in the HDD cage, i can barely feel something, actually almost nothing.

There is no any intake in the case, unless you are with the mesh window (my temps dropped by 10C after i changed the plastic with the mesh window).

I have ordered one 80mm fan, so i can put it in the HDD cage, on the place of the toolbox, where the green line is :

http://img523.imageshack.us/img523/5...3301310rh3.jpg

Or maybe infront of it, like Xombie did.Xombie, how did u attach it?You made holes in the cage and used screws?

Will i get any improvement by this fan by the way?Did you have any improvement Xombie?

Also i am looking to open the front of the case, and remove the dust filter of the intake fan.Is there any safe way to do it, without breaking something? And no rivets involved, as i don't have this tool and i don't want to make the things complicated, as i really suck in doing some work with hands involved xD

The hardest part of taking that filter off is actually getting the front off that case. Have you done this before?

If not, I can give you some pointers.

Once you have removed the front from the case, the fan and filter/cage doesnt even require any tools to remove. You simply pinch the filter/cage from left to right and it will release a clip on either side. Then seperate the fan from the filter/cage... and use your finger to push the filter out of the fan cage. Then reassemble! Easy!

If you wish to remove the aluminum "grate" as zoom and I have done that is behind the fan and now might be the time. Zoom used a drill and removed the rivets to remove the aluminum section for the fan and neatly dremeled out the hole. I was in a hurry and not yet ready to disassemble my new pc, so I simply very carefully cut the hole while still in the case. Later, when I paint/powdercoat the inside bare aluminum I will clean this up!

If you need help removing that front cover let me know!

Thank you for the advices Darryl_Licht.

I've just removed the front of the case.Removing the filter was easy...but if it is removed there is nothing left to hold the intake fan.I need to buy some 3cm long screws so i can attach the fan.I cleaned the filter and put it back, for now it will stay like that, until i buy some screws.

I also removed the black mesh in front of the fan, near the 3D Aurora projector. It is looking ugly actually, i might put it back.Is it a good idea to keep it removed, or the black mesh in front of the case isn't much of a problem so it can stay?

There is an improvement from the whole thing, but not much.Probably there will be more when i remove the filter.

Buddy:

You can actually poke the filter right off the fan mount. Its only glued on. Pop it off the case again, remove fan from filter/mount, then poke the filter out (I used only my fingers) and redo. If you still have questions, I will try to post this mod with pics..

Thank you for the idea, this is saving me from the screws attaching.

I will remove the filter the next time i decide to open the front of the case again.

I don't need pics, i already know how to open the front and stuff...Its not that hard, just i needed to take out my dvd burner which was blocking from opening.

By the way i saw the other Gigabyte 3D Aurora threads you posted in...yea make one big thread only for the Aurora 570, it will be good.We can make guides how to improve the airflow, and stuff like that.

Also, you said that you cut off the grate behind the intake fan while still in your case...I might do it too, very carefully.

When I removed the front fan filter from my 570, I didn't want to put the frame back in so I bought some self-adhesive felt pads (2@4 1/2" x 6") and about 3/16" thick. I cut them into three strips so they would fit flush around my front fan. Due to the thickness of the pads, I wasn't able to stuff a fourth strip underneath the fan, but it holds the fan very securely and prevents any vibration from being transmitted to the case.

Good Alternative! And it isolates the fan from the chassis!

One day here im gonna remove the rivets, remove the aluminum fan cage, as zoom did and clean up the hole... but for now its flowing much better! That Noctua fan flows awesome for how quiet it is! But sadly it is too ugly for use anywhere else!

Did you do something to your HDD LED? It looks different in the pic...

triple post!? impressive...

anyways, this is the first long thread I've read in over half a year!

I was going to brush my teeth while reading... but its too late!

I have to say that what you did the with the HDD cage was absolutely spectacular! I've heard many people complain about such cages where there are only small holes to allow air to pass through... What terrible case design!? and yet it seems to be a standard...
