I say either 680i or 780i and e8400.
They are alomost giving away ddr2 these days so no problem there.

i'm hoping to spend less than eight hundred or around there. i did some looking around wuz thinking about the asus p5kc along with the core 2 duo e6850. one thing is i don't know wut cpu/board overclocks nicely, so i like your recommendations. i noticed that ddr2 ram is hella cheap nowadaiz and it's amazing. i remember when two gigs of ddr would cost you around two hundred for low latencys. as far as video cards go, wut do you recommend and wut kind of power supply to push it. thanks.

Gigabyte board with crossfire GA-P35-DS3P
Intel Q6600
2x ATI 3870's
2Gb x Geil or Corsiar Ram Low latancy 6400 DDR2
500gb HD
700w PSU

Nice set up and should just be in your price range if you already have case and dvd etc...

You won't get SLi for $800. Stick with a P35 board and a nice GPU. Asus really dropped the ball with their P35 boards this time around, so I'd recommend either the Abit IP35-E or the Gigabyte P35-DS3L.

Here's what I'd recommend:

Gigabyte P35-DS3L ($80):

2x1GB Crucial Ballistix ($65, $40 after MIR):

Core 2 Duo E4600 (12x multiplier = uber overclock!) ($145):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...032&Tpk=E4600:

EVGA 8800GT 512MB Video Card ($240):

CORSAIR 450VX 450W Power Supply ($80):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...9003&Tpk=450VX

Western Digital 250GB Hard Drive ($70):
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16822144701

LITE-ON Black DVD Burner ($25):

Cooler Master Centurion 5 case (with window) ($50):

Total is $755.00.
