To Sli or not to Sli?

Thread Starter
hey guys im building new rig kinda stuck between two MOBO's though. I can get a 780i XFX for bout $300, (ridiculous price but im in england, high tax ), the 780i has pretty much everything including Sli. Im going for a 8800Gts 512mb but i prob wont sli in the very near future, I jus kinda want it so its there if i decide to lol.

My other option is to go for a cheaper GA-P35-DS3R which is about $170, no Sli like but it has support for 45nm E8400 im buying AND has 1066 ddr2 support. what does everyone think?

1. $300 780i board with sli & ddr2 800mhz.
2. $170 GA-P35-DS3R without sli, but 45nm cpu & 1066 ddr?

cheers!

I would say go SLi but I think you'd good enough frames at 1440x900 right with a single card. 780i has 45nm support too. IMO I think you'd be better off getting a P35 board and just step up/buy a new video rather than finally getting enough money to get another card which sometime is slowly getting outdated by the 9 series.

ah ok cheers sonic, i heard some pretty good review regarding the GA-P35-DS3R, and its fairly cheap too compared to other MOBO's. How long you reckon i should aim to keep my 8800gts for before an upgrade would realistically be necessary?

Corsair XM2 is fine or take a look at Crucial Ballistix. If DDR2-800 and DDR2-1066 are almost same, then get 1066. MAke sure you have a good 550W PSU for G92 8800GTS SLI.
