And not to mention, you would getting DX10.

Can't get 22K in 3dmark06 from 7900GTX SLI. A 9600GT should outperform 7900GTX SLI. If you are still want to stick dx9, then get another gtx. I would prefer to sell 7900gtx and get a 9600gt for now. Later on, get another 9600GT for SLI.

9600GT for sure. 7900GTX was a good card back in the day but I am sure the 9600GT, especially in SLI, will beat it.

new gpu ftw.

Adding two pieces of 'dated' hardware, however good, is still "polishing the turd".

New gpu's have performance in the bag over a 7 series, even when comparing SLi...and especially when comparing power consumption and OC ability. * I dont run Vista..or even have a PCI-e 2.0 mobo... yet my choice is still the 8800gt. That way, when I get a new mobo, or upgrade to Vista, I am ready.

A 9600 will be a good starting point for a gpu upgrade, as its not too expensive [so you wont kick yourself for spending, when prices drop] and it will give you the improvement you are looking for graphically and still be practical for future upgrades/compatibility.
