8600GTS Aftermarket cooler... failing?

Thread Starter
Hai guys,

Around christmas time, i bought Vantech's (spelling?) IceBerq 6, an aftermarket cooling solution for my 8600GTS.

Now when i put it on the first time, i got really good temps, like 42 idle, and rarely hitting 60 in games, (like halo2). however, after removing the card to clean dust, put in a new sound card, etc. ive noticed every day the temps start rising... now, if im lucky IF im lucky, ill hit 46 idle, right now im at 47-48 idle, and now i easily hit 64-65 during a game like halo 2.

Im really confused.... could i have somehow damaged my card, or perhaps moved the heatsink off the chip? Maybe Riva Tuner is reporting wrong...

at any rate, i thought i would get your guys input before i go taking apart my entire computer.

I would say, just take the cooler off and reseat the hs, Odds are when you were bumbling around you moved it =P ooooooor is the sound card directly below? it could be putting off hotter then normal air right into your intake... 2 viable options imo

and also reapply some thermal paste or grease or whatever you prefer, i.e. AC5 or Zalman's Super Thermal Grease work great! i had a similar issue with my card, and as benny said, reseat the cooler. removed, clean carefully and reapply the thermal stuff and then reseat the card. this should help some.
