SLI splits Memory MHz?

Thread Starter
I was just reading some stuff on my video cards since I don't know much about them and I found out that the stock Memory MHz is 1500MHz..So I was like "Whoa.."

Fired up GPU-Z and I see

GPU Clock:580Mhz Memory: 750MHz
Default Clock:580Mhz Memory: 750MHz

SLI is Enabled.

So 750+750 is 1500..

SLI split my MHz in half?

Nah, the way that memory works is that it's multiplied by two. All video cards are using a 2xmultiplier, so, say, you have memory at 750mhz. The EFFECTIVE memory is 750x2, or 1500mhz.

Suilenroc is correct, but video card memory doesn't use a "multiplier" perse. To be more specific, video memory found on modern graphics cards currently utilises DDR3, or DDR4. All forms of DDR memory transmit data at double data rate. With this in mind a graphics card that has a form of DDR RAM running at 1800Mhz means that the memory is actually running at 900Mhz. You'll find that GPU-Z will also report your memory at 750Mhz even if you were running a single card as this is something that applies to all forms of DDR memory.
