E8400 Question...

Thread Starter
Can someone give me a little info on what a good build is around this processor? I already have it from a previous order (RMAing the previous mobo/ram, something wasnt working right) and have yet to buy a vid card... Budget is down to about 700$ with a little room to spare. I'm stumped.
Thanks ahead of time.

OK, $700 remaining budget is a good start, but more specifically, WHAT COMPONENTS DO YOU NEED, what do you plan to use the system for, etc.

Need more information.

Well, for gaming on a 30" you really just want to generate massive amounts of GPU throughput. If you have a graphics card now, that's good. If it's EVGA and your step up is valid, that's better. If you already have an 8800GTS, that's wonderful.

Otherwise, probably what you ought to do is get either an ABIT IP35E or Gigabyte DS3L, some Crucial Ballistix DDR2 800, and spend whatever is left on the graphics processing unit. You're going to want a 9800GTX when they come out.

Alternatively, the 3870x2 is a decent solution for video.

Why only ddr2 800... Why not the DDR2 1066? Seems like it would be faster.

Also, why would it be better to get the 8800GTS instead of one of the higher ones (ultra and such)? I need the system before the 9800's are out, that and im not sure how much those are going to cost. Anything over $350 for a video card is too much imo.
