q6600 stable in OCCT, freezes while folding

Thread Starter
I currently have my rig running at 3.2ghz Vcore of 1.365. vdrop puts that at 1.30-1.32 at load. I have run stress testing in OCCT for 2hrs+ without any problems but after folding for less than 2 minutes the computer locks up. Any idea why this might be?

thats crazy low Vcore. I run at 1.48 at load for 3.6.

Raise that Vcore up .05-.10 volts. Under 1.5 and you're totally fine if you can take the head.

thats good to know. I had no idea what to shoot for as far as vcore goes so I've just been guessing and testing

if you look at core temp, it tells you your VID. this is what your stock volts are. then if you look at cpuz it tells you what your running at. with you running @ 3.2 you should only have to bump up the voltage alittle. for example: my sig rig's VID is 1.2250, i'm also running @ 3.2. my vcore is set at 1.26, so you see i only had to bump it up alittle, for a stable 24/7 o/c.

Well the weird thing is I am stable at this voltage doing stress testing in OCCT. Why would my computer freeze up while folding and not durring the stress test. Could this be a problem with the SMP client?

Your problem is OCCT, sorry to those who rave at this program but its pure crap. It don't stress at all, I get 58c "load" with OCCT and 71c load with Orthos or Prime95 small FFT and 68c in blend, and folding keeps me at 60c. Use Prime95 since you have a quad core for real stressing, OCCT is junk. Folding demands more than that program.

I recommend prime as well, occt gives me problems when no other program does.

Yeah I never use OCCT. Only Prime95, be sure to use the Quad core version. v25.3 I think?

The only other thing I use is MemTest. I run that first through a few loops before I do anything else. When I check final stability of my O/C I run MemTest for 24 Hrs minimum, and then Prime95 SmallFFT for 24 Hrs minimum. Every now and then you'll end up right on the edge of a stable O/C to where it will only error out about once every 15 hours or so.
