Help: The router keeps blocking me.

Hello:

I have a interesting problem. Once in a while, when doing something besides WAN-side browsing, [i.e. perusing localhost, playing TF2, torrenting] i would lose all internet connectivity. The connection status in windows would not change; i never got kicked and still had my IP addy. I could access the router config login screen, and ping the router, but do nothing on the internet. The only way i could restore connectivity was to spoof my mac address. Recently, i lost connectivity and was unable to restore it by mac spoofing. I swapped out NIC's, I reinstalled windows, everything on my end. Once I enable the adapter or plug the cable in, the router sends one packet, and nothing else until i ping the gateway. My connection goes through a hub connected to the router, then to the cable modem. [me --> hub --> router --> modem] The port works fine for all other computers. The router is password protected and i cannot access it. Also, i no longer have physical access to the router.

To recap:
  1. The router used to ban my MAC address; i had to spoof it to get back online
  2. Now, no amount of spoofing, reinstalling windows or swapping NICs works
  3. The physical connection is fine, as i can ping the gateway and get a response.
  4. The port(s) work fine for other computers.
  5. I do not have any administration access to the router, and can no longer physically get to it. The only way to cut its power will be to kill power to the entire house.

Any and all help would be appreciated.

Sounds to me like someone doesn't want you on their internet. XD

Sounds like a hardware problem to me. Have you tried skipping around the hub? [not literally]

"i'm unable to login to the router, or physically access it"... This sound a lot to me like we're talking about a school or business connection, or jacked wi-fi...... anyway.

The only thing that you'll be able to do from this point (short of hacking the router) would be to proxy. If your other PC's can get online fine, proxy into one of them from your PC and use it as a gateway into the network. This isn't really a fix, just a work around, and you'll probably need to do som 'splainin before we can\\will offer much more help.

Yeah, I didn't think it was that funny, but it was sorta meant as a joke. I have been sigged. One of my life goals has been completed!

Sadly, it is just because I have nothing better to do...

I think a mod should check out this thread unless we can get a better explanation because, honestly, this sounds kinda suspicious.

Just sayin'...

You used to have physical access to it? Why did you lose physical access to it?

lol, I don't think hacking is allowed. Even to your own step-father.

Well, if you can't access it, you can only ask him to make you a proxy allowing you to some websites or something. You can always ask to add a wireless router.

If some of you got the wrong idea, he is not trying to bar my internet access, but the problem might be on his end. If I ask him to fix it, he will likely commandeer my computer and invade my privacy, as well as douse the thing with red tape.
