Installing Ubuntu-No video..?

Thread Starter
Went to go install Ubuntu again, 64bit and well after entering install from the ubuntu disk menu it goes blank. Nothing happens, at all.
Usin safe graphics mode its the same thing, except after a minute my monitor goes blue with no signal.

Could it be because my monitor is dvi-->hdmi? OpenSuse didnt have any problems..
Ideas?

I had the same problem when installing Ubuntu. Reading around the Ubuntu forums seems its a known bug that may or may not get fixed in the next version (8.04).
Do you have a spare video card with VGA? Thats how I got it installed then I could boot into it with DVI.

Try hitting F6 at the disk's boot menu and typing "acpi=off."

There's also a "nosplash" command or something like that, but I don't recall what it was exactly. If someone knows it, please share.

I messed with it and took away the quiet splash option. When loading I got a bunch of FD0 errors. What is that?
and Ive installed it before with my old monitor. It used to have a graphical problem with the loading screen but always worked. I think it may not like the hdmi or something I dont have a clue?
Ill try the ACPI thing though thanks.

Fedora might be worth a try. I had all kinds of similar problems when trying Ubuntu, but Fedora worked great. If you have problems with Ubuntu, Fedora should work. If you have problems with Fedora, Ubuntu should work. Someone said that, and for me it was true.

I'm not absolutely positive, but I think FD0 could be referring to a floppy drive (like HDDs are HD0 or SD0, the number being the device identifier, so if you had 2 HDDs, or even partitions, they would be represented as 0 and 1.)

Oh, and I recommend Suse over Fedora if you're looking for something easy. Fedora is probably more powerful, though, but I had a few problems with it.

Hmm...

You have to set up the repositories for the online updating. That should be in Yast in either Online Updates or Community Repositories (check off the update repo.) I can't check to make sure since I don't have access to my sig rig at the moment.

X-Fi is iffy (wow, that's actually a word in the dictionary)... I think at the moment there is only a beta driver which sucks. I don't believe alsa works, but I could be wrong!

Ill try OSS4 in a sec.
I did check the repos, kept getting erros while loading..and the nvidia ones never work.
Really wish I knew why internet was EXTREMELY slow.
