Checked the cable running into the house and it looked fine, no water or anything where it comes into the house either
Hmm... no point saying what i suspected, as it is random occurence for you.

I have no idea then, but I am as cynical as Enterprise

Well I called VM yesterday afternoon, as the modem was playing up again.

They ran diagnostics there end and checked the 'online' time of the modem since I've had it. The bloke said it should be around 98%-100% online.

Mine was 72%.

So have an engineer coming out today to check the whole system over (cable tv/modem).

Think I should ask for 28% of the amount I've paid towards the broadband, back?

Sweet thats good. Thats what you want. Yeah you can ask them to credit your next bill due to your loss of service.

I have to write to them to get any compo or credit on the account.

Anyway, the blokes been and according to the missus, the line was set to LOW on the box on the outside of the house in stead of HIGH. What that means I have no idea, I tested the speed on that speed test site and it was reporting a 2mb connection.

The modem itself hasn't been replaced so it remains to be seen what will happen

Perhaps low was half duplex and high was Full duplex ? If so then that will not fix it lol. Infact I have a high suspicion that what he did may not actually solve it...im just not sure. However I hope it did.
