Honestly, you don't even need the A+ certification for most of the fixes they come up with.
Case in point...
A friend of mine took their PC to the Geek Squad after it got hit by lightining (and I'm still kinda miffed that they didn't come to me first... but hey...) The lightning shorted out their powersupply and fried the motherboard.
They wanted to get some data off of the hard disk in the computer... so what does the "Geek Squad" recommend to them?
The GS recommended that they buy an external hard disk drive for $160 and have them transfer the files from the hard disk to the external drive.
Well duh... if they P/S and the mobo are shorted out, how on Earth will they be able to hook up the external drive to the PC to get the data off of the disk? (WELL DUH!!!!)
So they came to me and I told them... take that drive back, get a refund. Next bring me another computer, then I can remove your drive from computer 1 and transfer the files to computer 2 by installing the drive into the new PC. More or less, the files were in good condition on the drive, so she didn't need the extra equipment that the GS was trying to push.
Needless to say, stuff like that really makes me frown upon anyone who goes to the GS for help. They just prey on the computer illiterate.
