The Pentium E2160 is a Core 2 Duo with 1MB L2 cache. The Celeron E1200 is a Core 2 Duo with 512MB L2 cache.

At stock speeds, the 2.1GHz performs closely to the 1.8GHz E2160. The 1.6GHz E1200 is obviously slower. The E2160 would be the best bet if overclocking. However, the X2 4000 and E2160 would be comparable if not.
Once again...

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...m-e2160_8.html Pages 8-13 have some nice benchmarks.

The X2 3600 + has similar peformance to the e2140.
The X2 3800 + has similar performace to the e2160.

The Intel chips will OC higher.

So just out of curiousity.. Since yu're comparing a 3800+ to an e2160.. what would a 4000+ @ 2.8 amount to in intel procs
post #15 of 23
E2160= Pentium Dual-core and E1200= Celeron Dual-Core but both are under the same core microarchitecture with different size of L2 cache. At stock speed, E2160 is slightly better than X2 4000+. E1200 is an E2140 with half size of cache so it will be behind E2160 and X2 4000+. Once you OC them, it will be a different story.

haha true that. i haven't started overclocking much besides my graphics card yet but i've definitely learned a whole lot from OCN already.
