try connecting up with a wired connection, until you manage to get your wireless driver installed. (it helped me tons when i was learning with fedora and the constant kernel updates meant multiple wireless card driver installs) So to get your internet working, just use wired for a bit, update ubuntu, then go about installing your source drivers
extract it to your desktop, and in terminal, type:
sudo make install
That will compile the driver, and install the driver.
And hold in there. Switching from windows to linux is not easy. most people quit before they even reach this point. You are strong. it takes time to get used too. When i first started, it took me about a month to be somewhat comfortable in being able to clean install, install wireless, and know what what I was doing in the beginning.
