Okay, now i need to do this

Quote:
Okay, after a whole week of trying I finally have the Linksys WUSB54G V4 working in Gutsy without ndiswrapper.

This should work with a fresh install of Gutsy or an upgrade from Feisty

You will need the following packages:

* build-essential - which you can get from an Ubuntu CD. (Edgy/Feisty/Gutsy etc.)
* linux-headers-'uname -r' - which you can get from a quick search at packages.ubuntu.com

The first thing you will need to do is find a way of getting the RT2570 CVS driver on to your computer from http://rt2x00.serialmonkey.com/rt2570-cvs-daily.tar.gz.

Yes, "Gusty Gibbon" is the codename for Ubuntu 7.10, much like Leopard is the codename for OS X 10.5

Have you tried running through the entire HOWTO in the ubuntu forums?

i needed that package to do

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.p...hlight=wusb54g

I did that, and everything went smooth. Still cant connect to the internet.

Previously, somebody had me purge Network Manager, so I dont have anyway of managing my connections (that I know of).

I put in my ssid and stuff, but that doesnt work, because my network has no security, and there is no option in the wireless properties for no security.

try connecting up with a wired connection, until you manage to get your wireless driver installed. (it helped me tons when i was learning with fedora and the constant kernel updates meant multiple wireless card driver installs) So to get your internet working, just use wired for a bit, update ubuntu, then go about installing your source drivers extract it to your desktop, and in terminal, type:
cd ./Desktop
cd rt*/Module
make
sudo make install

That will compile the driver, and install the driver.

And hold in there. Switching from windows to linux is not easy. most people quit before they even reach this point. You are strong. it takes time to get used too. When i first started, it took me about a month to be somewhat comfortable in being able to clean install, install wireless, and know what what I was doing in the beginning.
