New PSU is buzzing

Thread Starter
I picked up a Antec True Power 650 about two weeks ago, and the damn thing is buzzing. It's not too loud but noticeable over 24db fans. The rig is running fine, but the buzzing is just getting to me. It also seems to go away, and come back at times. Any ideas? Should I rma it?
TBD..

Is it the fan? Try preventing the fan from spinning with a pencil or something & see if the noise is still being made.

If not, RMA that thing before it perhaps takes out some of your other components.

Actually depending on the Volumn of the buzzing it can be normal. Buzzing can be a sound produced from current passing through the capacitors.

after ruling out its not a fan.. i would email antec support and ask if its normal..

until they get back to you i would get a voltage monitoring program to watch the powersupply.. maybe someone can reccomend something pretty good..

if you do decide to RMA it.. ask them for a drop ship.. aka.. they send u powersupply.. THEN u send back the buzzer so ur not with out a power supply.. make up something like.. im a student and need my PC to do homework everyday.. and they usually dont give too much hassle but they will need a credit card to put a hold on there money in case you dont send back the bad one..

I'm pretty sure it's not a fan. I will give it a try but I doubt it is, as the sound is gone right now. It seems to be intermittent. I was going to rma it through new egg, but antec might be a better option with the drop shipping.

I do have HWmonitor installed. It's reading 11.83-11.9V on the +12V, 3.18V on the +3.3V, and 5.06V on the +5V all under 100% load on the cpu.
TBD..

Looks good to me, voltage wise.
