converting to high quality

i never realised but im running a really low quality

82kbps

some are ripped from cd some ar downloaded.

whats the easiest way to convert them all to high quality?

You can convert it, but you will never see any difference.

You cant convert low quality to high.

It only goes one way, And that is down, You can convert it to something higher but its not going to do anything.

There are options in every ripping program to set the bitrate at which you encode it. Most audio enthusiasts here prefer a lossless codec, but if you choose to go m4a or something, be sure to encode AT LEAST at 128kbps, I prefer 192kbps.

The reason you cannot convert to a higher quality is due to sampling. When you encode at a lower rate such as 82kbps, you have only sampled (taken data points) at 82 thousand bits a second. There is no way for the converting to add in data bits to the file since it doesn't know what's supposed to be there.
