P5E3 deluxe and DDR3

Thread Starter
From what I understand, the P5E3 deluxe only supports DDR3.
So if I'm going to build the rig in my sig, then I'm stuck with DDR3 ram right?

Is it worth it? Is there actually a performance gain?

1600 ram is quite expensive :-\\

Is there a better choice for a Q6600?

get the p5k premium ......its DDR2 but it nativly supports 1066mhz ram
and OCs like a beast

there is little or no performance increase from running ur ram above the fsb @ 1-1 ratio

IMO, it isn't worth it. DDR3 will become mainstream ram eventually but not until early 09. It doesn't give you any performance boost vs. DDR2 ram at much higher price. I will set the budget and stick with p35/X38 boards with DDR2 ram for now.

P35 board: DFI P35, Asus P5K-E or Abit IP35-Pro
X38 board: DFI X38, Gigabyte X38-DS4 or ASUS MAXIMUS FORMULA.

Then get DDR2-800 or 1066 from GSkill, Crucial or others. They are so cheap. For $40, you can have 2GB DDR2 ram.

From an an article from Toms Hardware, they say that you require DDR3 1800+ to have the edge over DDR2 800. And even then it's tiny.

Get a DDR2 mobo, Nehalem will be around the time DDR3 will be worth getting....

Your P5k premium is good. I don't know about his budget so I didn't bring it up.

If I tune down to a P5k Premium and DDR2 ram at 1066 I can save quite a few bucks. Then in 2009 or 2010 replace mobo, cpu and ram.
Bleh damn Nehalem .. I want it now .

In such a case I won't be cf-x'ing 2 3870x2's .. so the fact that the p5k-premium's second pci-e 16x runs at 4x wont be a problem.

If I were poorer I'd consider buying a cheap temporary rig. But having the money its hard not to get a Q6600 with a 3870x2 .
Sheesh, impatience...

Thanks for the info guys.
