how are console controllers getting more complex exactly? The ergonomics are constantly improving and the buttons are getting less.
its gone from
to
to

and soon....

well maybe the buttons arent getting less but definitely more egonomically placed

A lot of poeple say that, and to some extent I agree, but I've always had a fondness for the SNES controller, and now the Classic Controller for Wii. Really comfy.

I always thought the N64 controller was fantastic. The gamecube controller's buttons seem a little sporatically placed.

Everything should be designed so a two year old can use it...?

How about you pull the kid away from the TV and read him/her a book so they don't grow up to be stupid enough to need a device with a two year old in mind.

There is a learning curve in everything. THAT is part of what makes it fun.

For people that like the playstation controllers... I have sadly small hands(helps me install CPU coolers better =)) and I even find that controller way to small.

Xbox 360 is a comfortable fit for me and I don't feel like it's going to snap in half when I touch it.
I do enjoy the ps3 controls as it doesn't hurt your "trigger finger" after long gaming periods..
I remember the N64 controller making my thumb extremely soar from the directional stick.

But on topic.. Anyone that is handed an Xbox 360 controller and immediately throws it someone or points it to someones head and pulls the trigger.. Shouldn't be touching anything.

Scary!

Then I shall continue using my keyboard.

I think you guys missed the point of the article.

Its not about the amount of buttons its about having controls that feel natural to a human being. This is why we all prefer a mouse over a joystick.

Someone else referenced a fighter jet and I would like to use this as an example, if you were to get into a fighter jet you wouldn't know what to do first right? How do you fly? Whats this button do?

But if the controls felt natural like you pretended moving your hand like an airplane in the air and the aircraft responded then it would make sense.

Its not about the fact that a two year old can use it, its about how human beings think and respond to the operation of a device based of how natural it feels to control it. This is what they are trying to accomplish its not just about removing all the buttons its finding a solution to complicated actions by simplifying the amount of steps it requires, theres nothing wrong with that.
