Overclocking 754 3200+

Thread Starter
I've tweaked this CPU a little. Have a MSI K8N board. This is the most i've overclocked one before and seen on AMDgeeks they are getting up to 2.9 and this thing is faster than my AM2 3800+ which will only clock to 2.3. Getting about 35-36 C while running music and internet. I dont game so i just basically do this for fun and vast my knowledge.. lol

If you have anymore tips let me know i'd like to take this a little more

Only have 512mb of MicSys cheap ram

Do you have your memory on a divider yet? If not you have to if you expect to go much if any further. My S754 Venice 3200 would do 2.72G @ 1.58v under a Thermalright XP-90. What are you running your vcore at? What kind of load temps do you have? Are you using the stock cooler?

Sorry for all the inquiries but I miss my A64 setup, it was a lot of fun, and would love to see this go further.

Dont' know anything about memory clocking or dividing yet. Vcore is around 1.42-1.44. It's a stock AMD cooler with side and back 80mm fans. Just messing on the net i'm getting around 33 C now. Dunno what it will do under load need to run Prime95 on it.

under full load 50C is the highest its been about 15 minute running

Get into the BIOS setup , go to the "Cell Menu" > "DRAM Configuration" and take note of the "Memclock Index Value (MHz)"

If it is @ 200MHz, it means it's runing with no divider with your Bus Speed (currently @ 232MHz)

Nice trucks, m8!

Follow gothic's direction in the bios to find the dram divider and select any of the options below "200", it basically just allows your ram to run at a percentage of the FSB instead of 1:1. Once you do that your ram will be out of the way and you can keep trying to raise your FSB. You mentioned that you are hitting 50C under load and in my opinion you really don't want to go much if any higher than that. If you find temps are getting higher than 50C you either need to back off the OC a bit or get a better cooler. Leave your memeory timings on auto if you can, you can get back to that later.

you can most likly run 1:1 if you really wanted to,AT THAT SPEED, just set the timings to 2.5-4-4-8 see if that helps. If not try 3.0 cas.

Might want to bump the volts if you can, stay around 2.8 on the ram.

If you set a divider, then it should be ok, the 754's have a built in mem controller, so you should'nt see much of a performance hit, also check the HTT link, set it to 2 if you can, then you can find the limits of the chip.

I would;nt go lower that 166 ( cpu/11) on the divider, because it most likly will not boot at 133.

Or you can do what i did and get some ballistix at run it 1:1 at 282 HTT . I just have'nt done a cpu-z valid yet.

Don;t leave them set to auto, It will just run SPD speed, and you can't go far with that.

Also try 2t instead of 1t, might let you go higher.

Good call metal, guess I thought auto would adjust the timings but it's been a while since I ran my A64 so my memory is fading.

Keep us updated on how things go as well mini.
