It should also be noted that these are Sony's S-line of blu-ray players which are geared more for the high-end, so that explains a little bit of the price. Do PS3's do decoding of all the HD audio codecs (DTS-HD, DTS-HD Master Audio, etc.)? Most blu-ray players out right now can't, only the new players coming can so far. That doesn't really matter though because most people would just want to pass the bitstream audio out from the player and have their receiver do the decoding.
The PS3 can't do DTS-HD/Master Audio, but everything else up to that it can. I'm not sure if a firmware would fix allow it to or not, but I don't think it will.
