Duff E6750? - Page 3

Wow, can you imagine my surprise seeing this thread title?

Next time you have the heatsink off, check to see how flat the top of the CPU is. You can do this with a razor blade.

Some of the first C2D's had problems with IHS that weren't truely flat leading to poor contact with the heatsink.

It could be your issue, not sure though.

Well I have always had quite high-ish temps with this CPU. I've tried 3 different coolers and yet all give about 35-40C idle and 50-60C load. I know its not dangerous territory, but it just annoys me when everyone else with an E6750 has really low temps.

How do I check the CPU with the razor blade?

Personally overclocking wise ure Motherboard is holding u back.

Temps seem screwed.

I meen i Idle at 30-32 ( My ambient is about 23 )

Load 51-55 depending on the test

This is at 3.7ghz though.

I really think the CPU surface could be the problem maybe u should try lap ure CPU and Heatsink.

I idle mid 30's load mid-high 50's @ 3.6 1.4 v.

Basically, to see how flat the cpu is, you want to press the blade on the top of the cpu and see if their is any gaps. If you can see under the razor in the middle of the CPU, your cpu is concave, and thus you wouldn't get good contact with the heatsink over the center of the cpu.

Put it across the top and see if there is light inbetween the razor and IHS.

That chip should be cooler, have you ever lapped a cpu before? If not then how about a HS? Might be something to think about. When you reseat the chip this time, Try applying a small amount, then take a plastic zip lock bag, put your finger in the corner and cut a small piece out. Use this to spread the paste over the top of the CPU in a very THIN layer, that might help.

You probably should check what motherboard those people are using. Your motherboard looks like yet another Gigabyte fiasco. They have had 8 different versions of the bios in 5 months. I'm not very familiar with that chipset but it looks to me like a combination of cheaper parts (ich7, etc) that were thrown together to sell a cheap board.

So maybe like I said, see what board those other people are using.

Yep, the mobo is shoddy and probably needing more voltage then normal to overclock and the CPU is probably concaved requiring more paste to fill the gap hense the temp problem.

Well, that's a fair point and usually not the same board I am using. I am thinking of upgrading to a P35 sometime though. But I also want more RAM, a better GPU... and if I have a bad CPU, then that's even more money. I just don't know where to start
