card with 24lcd

Thread Starter
i just got an Acer 24 LCD. Its huge compare to what I had before 15 inch LCD eMachine my max resolution was 1024x768. So my bfg 7600gt oc didn't have a problem playing my games. But now with my new res of 1920x1200 its having a big problem. Especially need for speed pro street. So now I been thinking of getting a 8800gs what do u guys think about that. I don't have to have over 40fps. So well that do. Thanks

Depends on what you call "playable" and what level of eye candy you're willing to play at. An 8800gs should provide you with a playable (for me, this means 30fps+) gaming experience, as long as you keep graphics settings at medium/high.

Don't even bother with the 8800 GS, get a 9600 GT instead. They have more memory, wider memory bus, higher clock speeds, et cetera. It looks like the average price on Newegg is $180.

I used to run a 20" and an old 15" crt and now have a 24" and a 20". FPS takes a huge hit at that resolution. Is your gpu 256Mb or 512Mb? If it is 256, that is why, it takes a little bet of gddr memory to handle 1900x1200

I just played Call of Duty 4 and use Fraps to see how many fps I get with my current video card I got an avg of 25fps. I don't think its that bad but i would like to have mid 30fps on all my games. The card I have is the 256mb.

Have you played a game at less than an LCD's native resolution? Quality takes a sizable hit.
