I used to swear by Trend Micro, however last time I tried it it never worked.

Then I switched to AVG. It seemed to be a light resource hog to me. It slowed down my bootup time by about 30 seconds or so....not cool with me. After bootup it was fine though.

Switched over to Avast and haven't looked back. All free versions of these programs BTW. I'm now running Avast A/V paired up with router/Windows Firewall, Ad Aware Free Edition, and Windows Defender. My system usually stays clean.

Avast is quite nice because it can scan during your screensaver...that way it only scans when you're away . I love it and am not planning another switch anytime soon.

Also, I used to be fooled by Norton, then I got smart . Norton just absolutely sucks, they need to program that stupid thing a LOT better.

If don't go to sketchy websites, download junk off of Limewire, etc., it's pointless and a waste of resources. I havent used an AV in ages and I've never come across a single virus.

All anyone needs is CCleaner.
so how do you know that you have never had a virus if you dont have a AV program. lol

I guess i am one of the few who use norton. After you install the vista update (uh... because i have vista) norton is amazing. BitDefender is also really good. But the free antivirus software... its free for a reason.

My computer and I have an intimate relationship...I can tell when there's something wrong. And in that odd chance I think something isnt right...TrendMicro online scan for free. But I've never had any issues.

Quote from an actual lan:

Idiot: Yeah, I don't use antivirus protection because I don't have viruses.
Annoyed Person: Alright, which one of you has the computer named _____, spreading viruses through our network?!
You really had to be there. Case in point, on Windows, use antivirus. You may be able to get by without it if you're really smart (and lucky), but most people aren't.

nod32 is the least resource hungry AV. I switched to it about a year ago, and have nothing but good things to say about it.
