Intel Based Linux Home Fileserver / Folder

Thread Starter
So, I'm thinking of taking all the old parts I have laying around, and building a proper, Linux fileserver for home network use.

I have an E4300, 2x1 GBs of RAM, a 680watt PSU (overkill), and optical drives.

What I'm thinking, is a small, cheap case. This doesnt need to be anything special.

So, what else do I need?

I see a lot of people recommending the DFI Blood Iron mobo?

Also, I'd like to look into a RAID Array with data backup.. something like 2x320 and a 750 for file backup?

Other than that, it's a case and a distro of Linux (Ubuntu)?

You guys think this is at all overkill for a basic home fileserver / music streamer/ POSSIBLE FOLDER?

Thoughts?

Check out FreeNAS and see if it is what you want. Based of FreeBSD. http://www.freenas.org/

It's advantage is that it is really simple to setup and use.
