not sure what to do with 9600 GT - Page 4

I've seen lots of people reporting that their scores are not scaling as expected with their overclocks.

The only real anomaly seen in the scores you provided is the one where your Mem is clocked at 1027. I would suggest that this memclock, while it may technically 'run', is too high and is causing small unseen code execution errors to occur.

Other than that, the numbers make sense to me.

First off, I would run the tests at least twice at each clock setting, and use the second and beyond run(s) as your baseline 'reality'.

Secondly, as was hinted, don't expect upping the pci-e bus speed to really help much of anything score-wise.

Thirdly, I don't think your memory is happy at that speed. It may run, but I bet it's slowing you down by being OC'd too far.

That's just my guess, though...

Although it's not really accurate to call it a 'test', if you wanna see some cpu bottlenecking, try comparing runs aquamark 3 with your CPU at two different speeds ... say, at 2.0 and 2.5 GHz.

The thing that's complicated about the concept of CPU bottlenecking a GPU is that there is no 'absolutes' involved. You have to take into account the 'situation', i.e. the application being run, the resolution it's being run at, and the various image quality settings. In other words, in ONE situation, your GPU may be bottlenecked by your CPU, and in another situation, with the EXACT SAME PARTS, it may NOT BE.

Generally speaking, though, if overclocking your video card +10% causes LESS than about an +8% increase in your FPS (beware of 'scores' though, FPS is a better identifier on this) on a given test, you can be fairly certain that on THAT TEST, you are experiencing CPU bottlenecking (at that particular GPU speed). If your FPS actually goes DOWN, that is likely to be something else altogether, IMHO. Like, overclocking your card too far...

These 9600 cards are budget cards, which is why their soo cheap. If you want a real performer you should get a real card like 9800, lol

i'm in the process of sending 9600gt SSC back. I can run 3dMark06 to my hearts content and get 11443 or so and yet I play CSS or HL2 for 5 minutes and the whole thing does a hard crash. EVGA is taking their time on sending me a new one might be buying a different card or just returning it all together.

I was going to start a thread on this. Thinking of getting a 9600gt just to keep until I upgrade to quad and then use it for sli but it's freaking disapointing that a x2 at 2.8 would bottleneck a 9600gt.

I would try to set the x2 at 2.6 where you know it's completely stable, then try a different benchmark at your normal resolution.

What brand is your psu? Maybe that's the issue here.
