DDC 3.2 Pump Top Shootout..10 tops tested - Page 5

There are only two US XPSC retailers.... Just spoke with FrozenCPU and they will NOT be stocking the XPSC top+res. Waiting to hear back from Performance-PCs now.

Martin, any chance you can grab a Bitspower top+res?

Are you going to try over-volting the blues? I've not heard much about over-volting them, I just wonder how well they respond....

This is the interim blue impeller and the bridge trick to turn a 10W into a 18W...

Stock..

Bridged..

This is a orange PCB...One of my dead ones....

EDIT: If you need a better shot of a known orange and black PCB let me know and I'd be glad to take them...

Awesome thanks! That explains the bridge, I had it all wrong. I thought it was the wire that you see jumping from the 12V on over.

Looks like a have a nearly toated DDC1 on my hands, after taking a closer look at the underside of a dark spot, one of the ICs is melted. Oh well they were sort of a cheap trade anyhow. The orange one is good though.

I did try overvolting, they are capped at 12.99 Volts, anything higher and they won't turn on... so it's a scary proposition to be overvolting. Imagine turning on your computer when you had a slight spike in power only to trip the protection and now your pump sits there..OFF..

I tested overvolting to 12.99V and undervolting. You can undervolt clear to about 5.8V and still get it to start.

These are the curves I developed with the stock pump and voltage changes. Good gain on the extra 1 volt, but man....I don't think I would risk running it very close to 13V..

Maybe someone can figure a way to start it at 12V an turn it up from there? Because it will actually run beyond 13V if started under the limit, it just has some sort of voltage protection that keeps it from starting at 13V or higher. My volt meter was actually not wanting to start it at 12.95 Volts, but I suspect that's just error in the volt meter and it's supposed to be 12.99 as the limit.

Bucky-FrozenCPU.com to me

We have been undecided to bring them in as they are fairly expensive but in
light of their recent outstanding review they will on our next order.

Bucky

Hey Martin.... FrozenCPU just emailed me and said they just decided to order the XPSC res+tops.

XPSC just told me that PerformancePCs has them on order as well.

As for the undervolting curves... 5.8v is the minimum start up voltage? What if you lower the voltage after the initial startup?

NP Martin glad I could help a little.....

Thats a decent boost at 13vdc Man...I'd have to hit that if I were still running them..

I over-volted mine with these little 100W XP industrial boards...They have a trim pot on them that will go up to 14.2 or 14. 3vdc....They would under-volt a little to but I don't remember how much....If I remember right they were 2.5 or 3 amp each...I used one on each 18W orange, the orange would start at around 13vdc, so I would leave them there and up it a little after start up if I wanted to with a screw driver...After playing around with them a lot I usually just left it at 13vdc......I never really saw a diff in temp's, I had 2 in series on a cpu only loop,so other then something to play with it was pointless...Multi block restrictive loops may have gotten a boost...

A year or two ago they were at all the salvage places for $5-6 bux, about half of them I would get were DOA but no great loss at that price...I haven't seen any lately but almost all the industrial boards will have a little round or square trim pot on them with blue or green or red glyptol on the top of it to keep it at 12vdc for shipping, just scrape off the glyptol and you can adjust..The PSU itself would kick off at much over 14vdc but if you unplug it and let it sit a minute and plug it back in they would work again..After kicking off 15-20 times they would usually die, I only ran fans at the higher range, I'm pertty sure it would cook a DDC at 14+vdc....All I have left are dead ones or I would give you one to play with, they work great....

It stops turning somewhere around 5 something, can't remember exactly, but it's very weak for a pump that undervolted. Even 7V is extremely weak and wouldn't be powerful enough to do a whole lot. Anything under 9V is completely silent.

Glad they are stocking them, had lots of interest in finding them ever since posting. That's good, always glad to see some well deserved interest due to real performance.

Great, I'll keep an eye out for those, that would be a handy way to just get a small amount of overvolting. I'd be ok with overvolting to 12.7 or so volts..
