Also a possibility. Windows is sometimes annoying with changing hardware.

@ Ducky. Yeah, it's a bit strange to even have that option. Maybe it's for power conservation? Not really sure....nevertheless it's in my 650i bios, so I thought it would most likely be in his .

Every (almost) time you change CPU you have to reinstall, simple as that.

Its 100% normal.

WOW....thanks for the quick replies guys, you all win a prize.....the problem was in the BIOS, the CPU config, cores 2 and 3 were disabled. A couple of clicks, problem solved. Now after I lap and strap my cooler the real fun will begin. Talk later

It is recommended however to re-install your OS with a major change, such as CPU and motherboard.

I have never had to re-install the OS with a CPU change (I always do a BIOS reset though). I went through 3 different systems with the same OS install (did a repair on them though).

I have changed CPU 4 times, and every time i had to reinstall my OS.

P4 3.Ghz -> P4 3.2Ghz -> Core 2 Duo E4600 -> Q6600.

And my PC never worked w/o a fresh OS install.

Lets say, if its not working reinstalling your OS, its your best bet.
