TRUE or Tuniq Tower 120 for Q6600? - Page 2

I had the tuniq on and I could easily get 3.6ghz prime95 stable. I'm running 3.7ghz atm with the enzotech which is worse than the tuniq. The tuniq will be fine for what you are talking about.

I beg to differ.

My Q6600 is @ 3.6 w/ 1.45 and full load for 36+ hours IHS reaches 59c while cores are mid-60's, 68 max. Mind you this is in an NZXT Apollo mid-tower case with mediocre airflow.

No lapping on either.

CrazyPC is a great place (never mind that I literally live around the corner from them...). Great prices on stuff & back their work.

I've had no problem with the Tuniq handling 3600mhz as long as my ambients are decent. The "True" would save me a few degrees probably but really I think to run higher 24/7 I would need to shift to good, not cheap, water cooling setup. The tuniq has been good tho, didn't lap it, mid 60's max running prime95 at 3600 1.45 vcore, the true may be able to keep at at 60 with a good fan.

But that brings me to my next two points. What fan should I get? And how the heck do you mount a fan on that thing? I kind of like how the Tuniq has the fan controller that mounts in your front bay area, but I wouldn't mind a fan that I can plug into my motherboard and have it controlled by my BIOS.

Also, since I am not lapping my CPU, is it really necessary to get the lapped TRUE? Will it provide better performance when the CPU is not lapped?
You also should lap the CPU if you are planning on getting the lapped version of the Ultra 120 Extreme (or lapping it yourself), as two lapped surfaces provides better contact than just one lapped surface against one warped surface.

I would get this fan and attach it like so (in the attached pictures):

if money is no object, get the ifx-14 or whatever the new thermalright heatsink is. Put 3 fans on there in a push, push/pull, pull configuration and I think you have a winner.

Or, you could do like me and order the TRUE-120 and the IFX-10 (backside cooler) seperately and pair them up together instead.

Word of warning though, you might want to double check and make sure that you can disassemble the case if the motherboard tray doesn't provide enough clearance for the IFX-10 to fit.

My Silverstone TJ09 accomidates my TRUE-120 just fine but I had a nightmare of a time taking apart the top of my case to create enough clearance for the IFX-10 to fit. Thanks a _TON_ Silverstone for shipping me a case where 3 of the 8 screws holding the top of the case together were stripped beyond all recognition. That only added an extra hour to my installation time. :middle-finger:

(oh well, just add to the list of dumb **** I'd RMA over next time)

I'll link some pictures of the TRUE with the IFX-10 when I get home...
