TRUE or Tuniq Tower 120 for Q6600? - Page 4

Thread Starter
Maybe I will try lapping my CPU... I have to send in my 680i soon for the 780i and I don't expect them to take any less than forever to return it to me. While my CPU is out and sitting around I may as well do something with it!

We "lapped" some copper stock the other day in my Material Science and Engineering course with some sanding machines and polishing wheels so we could look at it under a microscope and see the grain patterns. I wonder if I could get before and after shots of my CPU with the microscope.

By the time you have done 220/400 > 600 > 800 > 1000 > 1500/2000 you will be tired and you don't want to have to keep removing and retaping sandpaper.

Go to Home Depot or Loews and get your 220, 400 and 600 grit paper. Then go to an auto parts store like Auto Zone or O'reilly to get 800, 1000, 1500 and 2000 grit. You have to ask the cashier to get the 1500/2000 from the back in most cases.

Crazypc is da bomb... I got my ultra 120 extreme pre lapped from them. I can vouch that their lap quality is superb! Go for it and get a scythe slipstream fan.

I love that the dude has a great business now. Back in 2000 when I was living up in Detroit (Novi, actually) there used to be a "computer show" at the local flee market every other weekend and he'd be there with a booth for CrazyPC hawking his stuff. He used to have the best deals there for cold cathodes back when pretty lights where all the rage, heh...

BTW, I finally got some pictures up of my TRUE + IFX-10 installation. I couldn't fit an IFX-14 and the IFX-10 backside cooler wasn't available in north america until very recently. Hell, i might be one of the first ones to have it installed... <shrug> And in my humble opinion, the IFX-10 looks better than the IFX-14's backside cooler, lol...

It can be a real PITA to install, however...

...look at the clearance on the fans above it.

What's Lapped?... Because I have the Tuniq in mind because the extream 120 isn't on newegg... But with all this goodness about the TRUE I might buy it from another site. And Would it fit into a Antec 900?
People make too big a deal about the TRUE and lapping. For one, most of the reviews were done without lapping, and it beats the tower. Second, you can just buy one pre-lapped.
