Seriously, something's gotta give. I caught Comcast throttling my download speeds two nights ago and sent them a lengthy email letting them know what I felt about it. I converted my dad's LP, reel-to-reel, and cassette collections to MP3 in the summer of 2005. In summer 2007, I set up an account at AT&T Online Vault (an online backup service) and uploaded all of those MP3s, my dad's home movies, and my mom and dad's photos - it totaled over 22 GB.

My dad's hard drive crashed and I was trying to download everything I had uploaded. The download started at 380 KB/s and, two hours later, dwindled to 5 KB/s. I stopped the Vault download, rebooted my router, modem, and PC to see if my hardware was the culprit. I tried downloading a game demo and, lo and behold, it was still at 5 KB/s. Even my email was downloading very slowly. This was at 9 A.M. on a Sunday, so I highly doubt there was so much traffic in my neighborhood that could affect my download speeds so much.

My download speed hovered between 5 KB/s and 10 KB/s. Coincidentally, almost exactly 24 hours later, my speeds went back up to normal. I tried the same thing again on Monday around 10:15 A.M. and the same thing happened - ~400 KB/s download speeds down to 5 or 6. I'm still waiting on an email response

I am usually opposed to socialism, but in this case, I am beginning to favor state-controlled internet service. If these companies abuse it, they should lose it.

That's horrible mate, I have a 5mb ADSL line, and due to my distance to the main hub I get about 4.5mb by the time it gets to my house and my downloads are always at around 550kb/sec regardless what time of day it is. How much do you guys have to pay? I'm paying about $35/mo

Im glad i dont have comcast.. i hate the idea of virtually sharing connection speed with the rest of the neighborhood.

Now if only i could convince my parents to switch to 6mb/s AT&T

Isn't that against some law? They should be fined like a zillion dollars or so... Or at least enough to make them feel it...

i'm waiting on the all fanboys that are always in comcasts corner that they are doing nothing wrong to have something to say here...

if this surprises anyone then they have no clue how politics, lobbying, & hearings work. if nothing happens to comcast through all of this then we can look forward to everyone following in line doing the same crap & then comcast will roll out more bs policy.

This is disgusting! I didn't like what they were doing about thier bandwidth and thought they were wrong but at the same time I could at least see where they were coming from and were just misguided, but this...., this is despicable!
