Thread Starter
this is my shorter version of my Im with a guy about HD and monitors he insists that HD is a special type of monitor not just a resolution and what funny is he is a TECH at his school and his senior tech was sitting telling me i am wrong aswell which i know im not i just wanted to post this on here so real videophiles can tell him what is what lol

Chris G

lI MOOSE Il

Chris G
yes they are
inless there form like the ewarly 90s

lI MOOSE Il
you saying all monitors are HD?

Chris G
yes

lI MOOSE Il
lmao
no they're not dude
they can have high resolution close to hd

Chris G
704 pixels × 480 is standard
which is 480i
anything higher than that is considered high def

lI MOOSE Il
dude same resolution doesn't mean it's HD

Chris G
monitors are like twice that

lI MOOSE Il
i talked to alot of people about this
people think it is but it's not

Chris G

lI MOOSE Il

Chris G

Someone's a moron.

HD = High Definition.

Definition = pixel density which is directly related to resolution.

All PC monitors are HD for over a decade now.

I was under the impression that if it has the proper resolution, it was considered HD. HDTVs have high quality, such as good contrast and such, but res is what matters.

HD has become more popular now that video quality is catching up with the resolutions.

I thought:

740x480 = HD

1920 x 1080 = True HD

Anything above HD, was technically HD and same for above True HD.

Not all HDTVs have high quality anything... HD is just a marketing term for TV resolution. PC monitors can have better color gamut, contrast ratio, response time, and color reproduction than HDTVs (especially earlier ones).

Moose is wrong. Monitors exceed the capabilities of HD televisions (by double sometimes), and there is nothing special about the colors or any other magical 'HD' trait that televisions possess.

There are different levels and technologies of HD: 720P, 1080P, 1080i. P is progressive, i is interlaced, and p is better. Wiki to find out why, I have class.

Any monitor 17" or above that can display at least 1280 x 720 will be capable of playing HD content at 720p. You will need a standard monitor of 24" or at least a screen resolution of 1920 x 1200 to display 1080p Content.

Monitors that are 1680 x 1050, usually 20" to 22", and in some cases 19" cannot display the full resolution of 1080p content, even though people think that it's only the last number that counts (1050) thinking it's only 30 pixels off, but what most don't realize is that that horizontal number of pixels is 1920.
